St. Michael is a Catholic parish church in Oerlinghausen in East Westphalia in the Lippe district . Church and congregation belong to the Lippe-West pastoral association in the Bielefeld-Lippe dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn . In addition to the church in Oerlinghausen, the community area of ​​70 km² also includes the two branch churches St. Johannes Baptist and Resurrection of Christ in Leopoldshöhe .

After the Reformation , there were initially no more Catholic Christians living in Oerlinghausen. It was not until 1921 that a small congregation began to hold regular Catholic services again. The Antonius Chapel in Oerlinghausen was built for this purpose in 1922/23. The number of Catholics grew to 150 by the Second World War . During the war, the number of Catholics grew through expulsion, so that in 1946 there were already 600. By 1952 this number grew to over 1,000 Catholics and the chapel was no longer sufficient.

In 1954/55 the church of St. Michael was built in Oerlinghausen. In 1963 it became a parish church.

Today the Diaspora community has 5,000 Catholics who live with 30,000 non-Catholics.
