St. Michael is a chapel in Sinningen , a suburb of Kirchberg an der Iller in the Biberach district in Upper Swabia .

description

The generously built chapel is located in the center of Sinningen. The east-facing , beaver-tail-roofed building, which was still Romanesque at its core, was fundamentally redesigned between 1598 and 1611 by the abbot of Rot an der Rot Balthasar Held. In the years 1712 to 1714 the church was baroque. During a restoration in 1975, a Romanesque window was uncovered on the southern outer wall . The church has a two-storey roof turret with a baroque onion dome on the west gable . In this there are bells and a tower clock. The dials are attached to the outside in the east and west. In the east of the building is the choir with a three-sixth end. The sacristy is attached to this in the north.

In the north side altar, the Marienaltar, there is a late Gothic painting showing the scene of the Annunciation. It was created by the Zeitblom School around 1490. In the middle part of the high altar there is a baroque statue of the Madonna from around 1730. In the south side altar there is a sculpture of Saint Ottilia. In the south wall, near the main exit, you can see a baby Jesus from Prague in a niche. Together with the Way of the Cross, images of guardian angels on the gallery parapet and two votive tablets (1803), which have Maria and Martin as their theme, these objects were added to the church later. The church has a gallery and on it an organ made by the organ building company Reiser.

Fallen memorials

The church has two cenotaphs for the fallen sons of the place in the two world wars. The one for the First World War is set into the south-facing wall in the interior of the church. The second memorial is located immediately next to the west-facing church entrance door.
