St. Nicholas is a Roman Catholic , St. Nikolaus church in the Ganz fraction of the municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol . The origins go back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Early parts of the building were built in the 12th century in the then predominant Romanesque style.

The church is a simple hall room without an apse . The choir in the east, built together with the nave walls in the second half of the 12th century, is raised by a tower that was added a century later, which is why one speaks of an east tower church . A special feature are the two choir rooms arranged one above the other. In the course of the Gothic renovation of the nave, which took place in the 14th century at the earliest, the previously flat-roofed interior was spanned by a mesh vault. A gallery was drawn in to the west, while two flights of stairs were installed in the east that lead to the upper choir. North of the choir was in 15./16. The sacristy was built in the 19th century . Inside there are valuable remains of frescoes from various construction phases. The fresco paintings in the chapels of the upper and lower choirs with representations of the earthly and heavenly paradise date to around 1270. These frescoes were probably whitewashed in the 18th century and gradually exposed and restored from 1881 onwards.
