The church

The Evangelical Lutheran village church of St. Nikolaus is in the Zürchau district of the Nobitz community in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

In 1499 the church was built using the tower from the previous church. When the first church was built is unknown. It is assumed that the manor owner had a chapel built very early on .

To the church

It forms a rectangle 16 meters long and 4 meters wide and ends at the choir in a hexagon with three Gothic windows. The same window is on the south side. The old Romanesque church tower on the west side received a new dome in 1898 . Since the rectory burned down twice due to lightning strikes, valuable documents were also lost.

The church's furnishings include both Gothic and Baroque furnishings . The church hall is said to have had two altars, which is also evidenced by existing biblical altar figures. The altar reaches up to the ceiling. It is the work of the Altenburg carver Georg Pful, who created it in 1517. The pulpit was built based on the design of the altar. The baptismal bowl from 1710 is in the hall. The church stalls are also built in appropriately. The sacrament utensils are also available.

The three bells of the church no longer exist because the material was needed for the war . Only the little bell from 1897 remained in the house. With donations it was possible to buy new bells.
