St. Pankratius (Oberhausen-Osterfeld)

The Catholic Church of St. Pankratius is the oldest parish church in the Oberhausen district of Osterfeld , which was in Westphalia until 1929 . A first church was mentioned in a document as early as the 12th century. It was dependent on the monastery Werden .

The Osterfeld settlement developed around this Pankratius church, which has its origins in a court chapel. St. Pankratius is the mother parish of the St. Cyriakus Church in Bottrop , which was founded by Osterfeld. The parishes were separated when Pastor David Brockhoff was in office, but the right of patronage over the Bottrop parish remained in Osterfeld until 1793.

In 1896 a new St. Pankratius Church was consecrated.

The parish of St. Pankratius belongs to the parishes of St. Pankratius with the branch church of St. Judas Thaddäus, St. Marien Rothebusch and St. Franziskus with the churches of St. Antonius Klosterhardt St. Josef Heide and St. Jakobus Tackenberg.

Organs

The instrument, inaugurated on Sunday, December 17, 1978, is the largest in the city of Oberhausen. It is considered to be one of the largest organs in the Ruhr area.

Choir organ

The choir organ of the Pankratiuskirche serves as an accompanying instrument for church services, especially the weekday masses, which are celebrated in the high choir of the church. The choir room was redesigned into a church service room in 2012. The instrument was erected at the end of the 20th century between the baptistery and tabernacle away from the chancel. It comes from the organ building workshop Hofbauer in Göttingen. The register shelf 8 ′ was never installed on the organ despite the register pull.
