The Church of St. Peter and Paul is the town parish church of the Catholic parish of St. Peter and Paul in Waldkirchen and is also known as the "Bavarian Forest Cathedral".
history
The parish church of St. Peter and Paul is also called "Cathedral of the Bavarian Forest" or "Bavarian Forest Cathedral" because of its size (64 m length, 34 m width, 67 m tower height) and is one of the largest sacred buildings in the Diocese of Passau . It was built in the neo-Gothic style from 1857 to 1861 according to plans by Leonhard Schmidtner (1800–1873) by the builder Andreas Schwarzenberger (1816–1877) from Passau .
From 1945 to 1948, the war-related restoration was carried out while retaining the original masonry.
organ
The large organ of the parish church was built in 2007 by the organ building company Eisenbarth (Passau). The instrument has 51 stops on three manuals and a pedal . The choir organ by GF Steinmeyer , built in 1949, which has seven manual and three pedal stops, can be played from the fourth manual . The playing actions of the main organ are mechanical, the stop actions of the slide chests and some of the couplings are electric. The choir organ has an electric action with a pocket drawer . In the choir of the church there is the possibility to play the choir organ (there 1st manual) and the swell of the main organ (there 2nd manual) from a second console .
