The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Petrus is a late Gothic, neo-Gothic extended and reformed hall church in the district of Hartkirchen von Pocking in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . It belongs to the parish of St. Petrus Hartkirchen in the Pocking parish in the Pocking deanery of the Diocese of Passau .

History and architecture

The parish of Hartkirchen was incorporated into the St. Nikola monastery in Passau as early as 1144 until secularization in 1803 . The essentially late Gothic hall church was built in 1474 according to an inscription on the south portal. In the years 1890/1891, the building was extended to the east by two bays under the direction of Johann Baptist Schott and the choir was rebuilt, with the exterior completely redesigned in a neo-Gothic style. Another renovation took place from 1973 to 1976. The beams in the roof and especially in the tower were renewed. The church received a new clapboard roof, the tower a new copper roof. In addition to an extensive exterior renovation, the interior was also repainted, the existing heating was renewed, a new floor was laid and new seating was installed. The south vestibule is provided with a net vault and a portal with framework. The vault of the ship is only in its original state in the two western bays; the other vaults have been renewed in a stylistically similar way. The once last, now third, yoke of the ship is open to the south and north to side chapels and closed with net vaults. The remarkable, three-bay arched west gallery is slightly bent in a polygonal manner. Round internal pillars made of red marble support the gallery. The arched arcades are profiled and decorated with crabs. Two niches with canopies contain later renewed figures. The parapet was renewed in a neo-Gothic style. Baroque wall and vault paintings have been preserved in the side chapels. A late Gothic protective cloak Madonna is painted in the eastern shield arch wall field , the painting has been renovated. Painted archers are depicted on the gallery, probably referring to the original figures of martyrs in the canopies .

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic furnishings from 1891 were supplied by the Riesenhuber Art Institute in Munich. A carved figure of the Madonna from around 1430/1440 was included on the high altar. In the south side chapel there is a tombstone of Hans Ottenperger († 1498), which shows a coat of arms with a crest in a sleek, pointed keel arch field.
