The Church of St. Petrus and St. Leonhard is the former Roman Catholic parish church of Greimharting ; it has belonged to the parish of the Assumption of Mary in Prien am Chiemsee as a branch church since the middle of the 20th century , but lies with the town of Greimharting in the area of the political municipality of Rimsting .

Building history

The late Gothic church was built in the 15th century. When erecting the foundations, stones from the former Greimharting Castle were also used.

In 1758 the interior of the church was extensively redesigned in Baroque style . This tried to revise a "regotization" in the 19th century. Inappropriate techniques and a lack of knowledge, however, led to major errors that could only be largely reversed during a renovation in 1960.

A cycle of frescoes from the construction period was partially preserved and uncovered in the choir area of the church, as well as a large image of St. Christopher from the beginning of the 16th century. Rococo frescos from 1758, which had previously been painted over, were uncovered in the vault of the nave.
