St. Rupert is a Roman Catholic parish church in Brennberg , which is named after St. Rupert of Salzburg .

Building history

The church was built in 1689 on behalf of the family of the Barons von Lerchenfeld, who were wealthy in Brennberg, in place of a previous building that had existed at least since 1411 and was destroyed in a fire in 1686. In 1736 a crypt for members of the von Lerchenfeld family was added to the church . The structure was completely renovated in 1756 and enlarged by a reconstruction from 1851 to 1860, so that the entrance to the crypt is now within the structure under the choir. The last major construction project took place in 1899 by raising the bell tower , which was originally provided with a Gothic stepped gable, and adding a copper-patinated hood .

Furnishing

The main altar of the church and the two side altars are made in the classical style using altar leaves from the 17th century. The figures of the saints were carved in 1825 by the sculptor Christoph Ittelsberger (1763 to 1842) from Regensburg . In the church there was a single manual organ from 1895, built by Willibald Siemann with nine registers , which was renewed in 1992. The font from 1690 is still in use.
