The parish church of St. Rupert is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Freilassing . The church, consecrated to Rupert von Salzburg , is one of the largest churches in the Berchtesgadener Land district and is a listed building .

history

On March 10, 1924, the groundbreaking ceremony for the church took place according to the plans of the architect Adolf Muesmann . In November 1924 the roof of the nave was covered. With the exception of the tower, the church was completed in 1926 and consecrated on May 24, 1926 by the Archbishop of Munich and Freising Michael von Faulhaber . The large main tower was not completed until 1935 under the master builder Franz Putzhammer.

Building

The Rupertus Church is based on models from the local late Gothic period , but, especially inside the church, it is approaching a more modern, more modern simplicity. The imposing and spacious nave with an open roof structure is lined on both sides by a row of six high, ogival open and vaulted side chapels and closed off in the west by an organ gallery resting on nailed pillars. The westernmost chapel in the northern row is larger and square as a baptistery and has a star vault, similar to the presbytery. The interior of the church is 60 meters long, 20.5 meters wide and has a ridge height of 29 meters. The wall painting of the interior was designed by the painter Josef Eberz from 1926 to 1938 .

The 74 m high, mighty main tower, added in 1935, is by far the highest church tower in Berchtesgadener Land and one of the highest in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising . For its size, the tower has a relatively small three-way bell, the largest bell weighs 1.94 tons, bell 2 weighs about 1.1 tons, and the smallest weighs just 544 kg.

Furnishing

The high altar and the four side altars were built between 1929 and 1930 using red Adnet marble .

The organ was built from 1927 to 1929 by the organ builder Michael Weise from Plattling .
