St. Sylvester - a baroque branch church

The St. Sylvester branch church in the Appercha district of the Fahrenzhausen community in the Freising district is a new Baroque building from 1738, in which the Gothic structure was largely removed. The present choir is partly from the old church. This church building is a protected monument and is listed in the list of architectural monuments in Fahrenzhausen under monument number D-1-78-123-4.

history

It is not known when the first stone church was built. During renovation work in the 1970s, remnants of a late Romanesque complex were discovered, it had small (later bricked up) windows and a decorative frieze on the outer wall. This decorative frieze is still preserved under today's plaster. Romanesque-style churches were built in this area until around 1300.

A church was first mentioned in writing in the Conradin register of 1315. In 1524 the patronage of "Abberchach" is mentioned for the first time in a matriculation: at that time it was John the Baptist. The change to the patron Pope Silvester (or Sylvester) probably took place between 1560 and 1679.

The purchase of the side altars in Appercha in 1679 is documented. A comparison of styles suggests that all three altars were created by the same artist or the high altar with knowledge of the side altars or vice versa. Today's church with its curved windows essentially dates from around 1738, when the old Gothic nave was demolished and rebuilt. The church tower also partly dates from this time. Only the much smaller and narrower choir is still preserved from the Middle Ages. Two very old bells hang in the tower, which were cast in 1485 and 1481.

On September 9, 1866, Appercha was struck by a "great fire accident". The church should not have been affected by this; otherwise this would have been mentioned in the newspaper report.

Between 1973 and 1975 the church was completely renovated. The outer walls were cut horizontally above the foundation walls, insulated against moisture and placed on a new concrete base.

In the first years of the 21st century, long-time church caretaker Johann Rottenfusser added several art locksmith works to the interior of the church: decorating the portal grille (2007), Apostle chandelier (2008), chandelier arm for the eternal light traffic light (2009), choir bell (2016), memorial board with stand for sacrificial candles (2016). Rottenfusser created these works in the forms of the baroque or rococo style, which gives the church its character. Rottenfusser donated these furnishings to the church.

Furnishing

St. New Years Eve

The church furnishings are baroque. The altars are older than the nave. They date from around 1679.

The choir altar is dedicated to the church patron Pope Silvester, the side altars to Our Lady and St. Anna. On the altars there are figures of the following saints: New Year's Eve, John the Baptist, John the Evangelist, Florian, Leonhard, Franziskus, Antonius, Wolfgang, Anna and Stephanus.

There are also paintings with the subjects of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Sacred Heart of Mary or Mary Help.

The figures were - at least in part - carved by Christoph Thalhammer from Freising.

Two large paintings characterize the entrance area. In the vestibule a picture of the poor souls, on the back of the nave a votive picture of the village of Appercha from 1796 as thanks for the heavenly help with floods and cattle plague.

A special feature of the church in Appercha is the representation of the Mount of Olives with five large figures from the beginning of the 17th century.

Parish Association

The church St. Sylvester in Appercha is a branch of the parish church Jarzt . The parish of Jarzt / Fahrenzhausen, together with the parish of Giebing and the Weng curate, forms a parish association that has been expanded to include the parish of Haimhausen. This parish association is again part of the Dachau deanery; this ties in with old conditions.
