In December 1920 Christians was appointed as the successor to Karl von Buchka to the district administrator of the Prussian district of Blumenthal in the conservative administrative district of Stade . One of his important tasks was the promotion of social and general housing construction in his district with a growing population, due to the establishment of the Bremer Woll-Kämmerei (BWK) in Blumenthal. Christians campaigned for the social welfare and cultural promotion of the workforce. He was a member of the teachers' choir.
In the so-called Preussenschlag , the state government was replaced on July 20, 1932 by Reich Chancellor Franz von Papen as Reich Commissioner . By regulation of the conservative Prussian State Ministry , the Blumenthal district was dissolved during the district reform in 1932 and merged with the Osterholz district to form an enlarged Osterholz district. The social democrat Christians was removed from office in July 1932, followed for a short time by the lawyer Kurt Wellenkamp .
The National Socialists imprisoned Christians for several months in 1933 and took him into early retirement.
