St. Ulrich (Hohenfels)
The Catholic parish church of St. Ulrich in the Bavarian town of Markt Hohenfels is a baroque church that was built in its current form between 1716 and 1721 and consecrated to St. Ulrich of Augsburg . She belongs to the dean's office Laaber in the diocese of Regensburg .
location
The parish church is located in the center of the village on the market square. The so-called Kirchenbach, a small tributary to the trout stream, rises and runs below the church .
Building history
The predecessor of the church building was a smaller church consecrated to St. Ulrich. This was probably built in the 12th century by the then lords of Hohenfels for their Grundholden at the foot of the mountain . The St. Ulrichs Church was used until 1716, when it had to give way to the new building of today's parish church due to its dilapidation .
Fresco and altarpiece
In the parish church there is a large number of ceiling frescoes , one of which depicts the battle on the Lechfeld and was supposedly painted by Cosmas Damian Asam , but created by a different hand. The high altar painting of Saint Ulrich is attributed to the Munich painter Josef Wittmann by the art historians Hans Christian Ries and Michael Andreas Schmid .
