The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Ulrich is a Gothic, Baroque-style hall church in Pocking in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . It belongs to the Pocking Parish Association in the Pocking Deanery of the Diocese of Passau .

History and architecture

The inside of the apex of the choir is dated to 1491. The maker's mark was (according to the Dehio manual : incorrectly) identified with that of Hans Wechselberger. The late Gothic nave could not be completed because of the Reformation; it was rebuilt in simple baroque style up to the height of the choir after a fire of 1716 in 1758/1759. The Gothic west tower was rebuilt after it was damaged by the fire in 1724/1725 and finished with an onion dome.

During a restoration in 1970–1972, the interior was stylistically purified, the neo-Gothic furnishings, including the pulpit, side altars and communion bench , were removed and a new communion altar with ambo was created. In 2016/2017 the interior of the church was renovated and given a new color scheme.

The three-bay choir is stately high and ends in a three-eighth end . Inside it is provided with chamfered shield arches, which are transferred in broad throats to the circular services. On top of the polygonal capitals are short, drum-like attachments into which the vault ribs cut, which are figured in a bent row. The apex diamonds are formed alternately from straight and curved rib segments. Fragments of wall paintings from the 16th century have been exposed on the south wall. The baroque nave is just as wide as the choir and is closed off by bohemian caps over double pilasters . The arched west gallery dates from the late Gothic period.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic high altar was created in 1897 by Johann Huber from Munich. The glass paintings in the end of the choir were installed in 1893 and show Saints Ulrich (center), Sebastian (left) and Florian (right). The figures on the choir walls show the crucifixion with the Mother of Sorrows and Christ resting and come from the late Gothic period. The figures of Mary with the baby Jesus and St. Joseph were created by Dominikus Dengl the Elder. A bronze figure of the risen Christ by Dominik Dengl the Younger was placed on the south side of the church.

The ringing consists of five bells, four of which with the striking tones c-es-f-a-flat were cast in 1949; another with the strike note c was cast in 1717.
