The church

The former collegiate church St. Peter auf dem Berge (mons st. Petri), from approx. 1525 as an ev. Lutheran church of the place until the end of the 20th century, recently and incorrectly also called church St. Wigbert , is in Bergsulza , a district of Bad Sulza in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . It belongs to the Bad Sulza parish in the Apolda-Buttstädt parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . Until the Reformation it was called St. Petri.

history

A predecessor of today's church building probably stood before the Canons' Monastery was built in the 11th century. After 1064 this house was integrated into the monastery and was under the patronage of St. Peter. The provost was also responsible for the parish. After the abbey was dissolved, the church continued to exist as a parish church for Bergsulza. Today's hall church with a mansard hipped roof and dormers and a south tower as a roof turret was built in 1716.

The tower is equipped with an octagonal hood, lantern , clock and weather vane .

The nave has rectangular windows in the side walls. It has three-sided two-storey galleries , a wooden mirror vault with a stucco frame and a pulpit altar with a tall, slender pair of columns.

The organ is not playable.
