The St Andrew's Parish Church is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish town of Moffat in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The building is located off the Church Gate ( A701 ) in the center of Moffat. A previous structure was located at almost the same location. The neo-Gothic building was built between 1885 and 1887 based on a design by the Scottish architect John Starforth . An older design by Frederick Thomas Pilkington from 1882 was not carried out.

The masonry consists of red sandstone , which was carved into uneven blocks. A three-story bell tower is in front of the church on the east side. The entrance area is designed with a trumeau and elaborate ornamentation in the tympanum of the pointed arched archivolt . An eyelash suspects the area. Stepped buttresses on the edges lead to the final parapet. Coupled lancet windows are arranged along the facade . The final parapet is designed with battlement reinforcement. An octagonal corner tower sits on the left edge .

Round stair towers emerge in the inner corner between the tower and the nave. Buttresses divide the five-axis long house vertically. Pointed-arch twin windows are installed on the ground floor , while triple windows are installed in the gallery above. The gable ends of the transept are designed with triplet lancet windows.
