description

The Gothic St Monans Church stands on the western edge of St Monans, directly on the north bank of the Firth of Forth . Allegedly, it is the church building in Scotland that was built closest to the coast. It is one of the oldest churches in the country that is still in use today.

Its T-shaped floor plan is reminiscent of a planned cruciform church , the construction of which was canceled at the crossing . The "crossing tower" was probably increased in the 16th century. A stair tower emerges on the outside in a semicircle. It closes below the cantilevered parapet below the pointed helmet. Not far from the top, this is designed with very small portholes .

Buttresses run along the edges of the naves and end in small turrets. The facades are designed in various ways with ogival tracery . The small sacristy nestles flat on the north side. The tudor arched door on the east side dates from the 1820s. The final roofs are covered with slate.
