State courant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Staatscourant (German State Gazette ) was the Dutch state bulletin. The newspaper was published Monday to Friday (with the exception of public holidays) in tabloid format until July 1, 2009 . Since July 2nd, a website and a weekly edition, both under the name SC, have replaced the previous daily print edition. There is also an additional website for official announcements.

The editorial office is in The Hague . The website and newspaper are published by the Ministry of the Interior of the Netherlands in association with the publishing house Sdu . The paid circulation of the daily edition was 4,544 copies in the first quarter of 2008. The editor-in-chief is Maurits van den Toorn (as of July 2009).

function

The task of the Staatscourant was to publish royal and ministerial laws and regulations. These only came into force when they were published in the Staatscourant .

history

On January 1, 1814, the first edition appeared at the instigation of Wilhelm I. On January 2, 1963, it was the first Dutch newspaper to switch from the so-called Statenbijbel - to the tabloid format, a model that several regional and national newspapers would follow only four decades later. On January 16, 1989, the Staatscourant first took advertisements. In January 1993, in addition to subscription, retail sales were introduced. The first issue appeared on the Internet on November 18, 1996.

Discontinuation of the daily print edition

Since January 1, 2006, Dutch companies no longer have to publish their annual accounts after submitting them to the Chamber of Commerce in the Staatscourant . The print run had been in free fall for years (in the 4th quarter of 1999 it was still over 10,000 copies), and now there has been a loss of around 12.5 million euros in annual income.

The Ministry of the Interior saw no future for a joint print and internet edition and decided to abandon the former. To this end, a change in the law was passed, through which laws / ordinances can also become valid through publication on the Internet. The print edition was originally supposed to be discontinued on January 1, 2009, but it was published until July 1, 2009 and was then replaced by the weekly edition, now called SC. The last edition with editorial content appeared on September 5, 2008, until the complete changeover only laws and regulations were published.
