WAFU Cup of Nations 2019

The Stade Lat-Dior is a football stadium in the Senegalese city of Thiès . It seats around 15,000 spectators. The sports facility is named after the Damel Lat Dior (1842-1886), the legendary ruler of the Cayor Empire and fighter against the French colonization of Senegal.

After the renovation, which lasted from 2004 to 2019, the Stade Lat-Dior offers the standard that enables international meetings to be held here. Natural grass, video surveillance system and protective grating are available. The Senegalese national soccer team , which previously relied on the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor in Dakar with its up to 60,000 seats, can now play its home games here on a smaller scale.

The Senegalese national football team's first international matches in the newly opened stadium were the matches against Madagascar on March 23, 2019 and against Mali on March 26, 2019.

In the year of the reopening, the WAFU Cup of Nations 2019 will be the first international tournament in the stadium . 22 games with 16 national teams are played here.

Geographical location

The more than new hectare stadium area and the neighboring Stade Basket Lat-Dior are located in the south of the city on the Thiès – Sindia route , 23 kilometers from the Blaise Diagne international airport via the Thiès-Sud junction on the southern outskirts and via the toll road 1 can be reached in less than half an hour.
