Jamalpur is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is part of the Munger district . Jamalpur has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). The city is divided into 36 wards. It is about 199 km from Bihar's capital, Patna . The city forms a twin city with the neighboring Munger .
Demographics
The city's population is 105,434 according to the 2011 census. Jamalpur has a gender ratio of 880 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 86.5% in 2011. Almost 94.6% of the population are Hindus , approx. 4.3% are Muslims and approx. 1.1% belong to other religions. 14.2% of the population are children under 6 years of age. 12.1% of the population were part of the Scheduled Castes .
