The Stade d'Oyem is a football stadium in the Gabonese city of Oyem , Woleu-Ntem province . On January 9, 2017, a few days before the start of the African Football Championship , the stadium was officially opened by President Ali-Ben Bongo Ondimba .
history
Construction is in the middle of the country's tropical rainforest and began in September 2015. The facility with 20,500 seats was built for the 2017 African Cup of Nations. In November 2016, around seven weeks before the start of the tournament, the venue was not yet ready. There was a dispute with the residents about electricity and water, which brought construction to a standstill for eight days. The stadium construction stood, but important installation and furnishing elements were missing. Until the start, the Stade d'Oyem was no longer 100 percent ready. However, the African Championship games could be held. There were five games of group C and one of group D, as well as a quarter-finals.
