The Stade du Schlossberg is a football stadium with an athletics facility that is mainly used for football. It is located in the French town of Forbach , Moselle department in the Lorraine region .
history
The Stade du Schossberg was inaugurated on September 30, 1923 with a friendly match between US Forbach and Club Français Paris (2: 2) in front of over 3,000 enthusiastic spectators.
The construction costs for the stadium amounted to 376,000 FF and were repaid in 1939, just before the Second World War . During this time, the stadium suffered a lot from the war, so it had to be renovated. On May 17, 1953, a selection from Lorraine beat the Saarland national football team in the Stade du Schlossberg with 4-1.
On Easter Monday 1957, the local club struck Stade de Reims in front of 7,114 spectators and made the leap into professional football. In the first season, 9,753 spectators attended the game between the two top teams (Forbach and Bordeaux, 0-0), with US Forbach finally missing the promotion to Division 1 by one point.
The facility is not only used for soccer. It has an athletics facility and is an annual venue for the Meeting international d'athlétisme de Forbach .
