The Stadio Comunale Guido Biondi is the municipal football stadium in the Italian city of Lanciano , in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo . The facility offers 5,334 seats (976 of which are covered in the main stand) as well as 38 press and 35 disabled spaces. The playing field surrounds a cycling track . The venue, inaugurated in 1961, is named after the soccer player Guido Biondi (1952–1999), who was born in Lanciano.
After the SS Virtus Lanciano rose to Serie B for the first time in 2012 , the stadium will be renovated for the requirements of the second division for 500,000 euros (including security technology) and expanded to 10,000 seats. If the work cannot be completed by the start of the 2012/13 season , a move to the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara, about 50 kilometers away, is under discussion. In the future, the construction of a new stadium with 15,000 seats is planned, but it will not be built before 2014.
International matches
In May 2004, the Italian and Polish U-21 men's national football teams met for a game in Lanciano.
