The Ilie Oană Stadium ( Romanian Stadionul Ilie Oană ) is a football stadium in the Romanian city of Ploieşti . It has space for 15,097 spectators and serves as the home ground of the Petrolul Ploieşti football club .

history

The Ilie Oană Stadium in Ploieşti, a city with around 230,000 inhabitants in southeastern Romania, was built between 2010 and 2011. On September 25, 2011 the opening of the new arena followed with a first division game of the future user club Petrolul Ploieşti against the capital club Dinamo Bucharest , which the visiting team won 5-1. Since September 2011, the Ilie Oană Stadium has been used by the Petrolul Ploieşti club as a venue for home football matches. Petrolul Ploieşti has been Romanian football champion three times in its history, while the national cup competition has also been won three times. The last success in this tournament dates back to 2013 and was therefore partly achieved in the new stadium. Petrolul Ploieşti currently plays in the top division of Romanian football, Liga 1 .

The Ilie-Oană Stadium replaced an older stadium of the same name as the home of Petrolul Ploieşti. The old stadium had already been built in 1937 and at the end offered space for 14,000 spectators, but only met the requirements of a modern venue to a very limited extent. For example, it largely consisted of standing room, while the new arena only has seats. The old Ilie Oană Stadium was demolished in 2010 so that the new round could be built at this point.

The new Ilie Oană Stadium has a capacity of 15,097 spectators and, like its predecessor, is named after Ilie Oană , a former Petrolul Ploieşti player, who then coached the club for nine years as a coach and in this role for the most successful phase in the club's history.
