The City Archives Chemnitz is the archive of the city of Chemnitz in the Free State of Saxony .
history
The holdings include the official records of the city council and its individual institutions and go back to the beginnings of the city's administrative activities. Tradition begins in the 16th – 17th centuries. Century, the oldest document is from 1296 and the oldest city book from the year 1426. The archive also contains the holdings of the villages that were incorporated between 1844 and 1999. In addition, the written records of numerous craft guilds such as privileges , articles or handicraft and account books are there. There are also numerous bequests, collections, a plan and picture archive and a 34,000-volume library in the archive.
The city archive and library have been located in the former municipal pawnshop, Aue 16, since 1953.
