Gabriele Viertel (2019)

Gabriele Viertel (* 1951 ) is a German archivist .

After training as an archive assistant in the Karl-Marx-Stadt city archive, which began on September 1, 1967, she remained active there throughout her professional career. Part-time she completed an eight-year correspondence course in archival science at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the Humboldt University in Berlin . After she had repeatedly represented Gert Richter as acting archive director in the early 1990s , she was appointed director of the Chemnitz city archive in 1995 . She was also a member of the advisory board of the Marburg Archive School . Together with Stephan Luther, head of the archives at the Technical University of Chemnitz , she set up the Chemnitzer Archivare Stammtisch. She is the editor of the newsletters of the Chemnitz history association . She was the chairwoman of the association from 1998 to 2010 and was a member of its board until 2014. Viertel was retired on October 18, 2016 with the colloquium “Challenge for the municipal archives”.
