The Dorsten City Library is a public library in the city of Dorsten (North Rhine-Westphalia). It is located in the Maria Lindenhof education center between Lippe and Wesel-Datteln Canal .

history

Founded in 1954, the city library has had the town hall extension on stilts since 1957, which is now used as the Cornelia Funke tree house. As a child and adolescent, the writer Cornelia Funke was a very keen user of the library.

In 1980 it was renamed the city library and moved to a new building which, together with the adult education center and city ​​archive, forms the Maria Lindenhof educational center. Introduction of the EDP for the loan booking, establishment of an art library and expansion of the media offer to include records and audio cassettes.

From 1984 to 1993 a book bus served distant districts and residential areas on the outskirts.

The branch "City and School Library Wulfen" was from 1975 to 2010 an integrated district library for Wulfen and the comprehensive school. Since 2011 it has been continued by the school as "BiBi am See" with municipal support and civic engagement.

The city library has 80,000 books and media that are borrowed 350,000 times a year.

The library has been supported by a friends' association since 2013.
