Town church of Bad Lauchstädt

The Protestant town church is a listed church in the town of Bad Lauchstädt in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is recorded as a monument under registration number 094 20664 .

history

The original church had two steeples. Like most of the nave , these were demolished in 1684, as the church was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War . The city records show that the new nave was built from scratch on all four sides. In the south wall, however, parts of the previous wall are said to have been used for the new building. This statement is supported because the year 1618 can be found there. When the tower dome was renovated later in 1851 or 1852, it was shortened so that the tower is 56 meters high today.

Patronage

The town church, on Querfurter Straße, bears the patronage of St. Fabian, St. Sebastian, St. Valentin, St. Cyriakus and is therefore consecrated to four saints, St. Fabianus , St. Sebastian , St. Valentin and St. Cyriakus . How it came to the exact accumulation of the cartridge is not entirely clear. Although there was a castle church in Bad Lauchstädt, this was but the holy Bartholomew and the church in the district of St. Ulrich St. Ulrich consecrated. A double patronage of Saints Fabian and Sebastian is a common combination. In the case of Saints Valentin and Cyriacus, it is assumed that they are either the day saints of the founding and consecration of the new church or that the names come from important altars.
