The Mittelbaden Baden-Baden Balg Clinic , formerly the Baden-Baden City Clinic , is a central medical care hospital in Baden-Baden and an academic teaching hospital of the University of Heidelberg and has 380 beds.

history

Mayor Walter Carlein broke ground for the Mittelbaden Baden-Baden Balg Clinic (formerly Stadtklinik) on Balger Strasse on December 6, 1973. The foundation stone was laid on December 2, 1974. The planned construction time was adhered to, the ceremonial opening took place on October 14, 1977, the commissioning and transfer of the patients from the old hospital on Maria-Viktoria-Strasse (which was already on September 30, 1860 was inaugurated) on October 25, 1977.

The clinic was planned by the Hospital Science Institute (KWI) Cologne under the direction of Petri together with Werner Dierschke . The following architects were commissioned: Gernot Kramer (Karlsruhe), Rudolf Wiest & Partner (Karlsruhe) and Werner Dierschke. The architects received an award for this work in 1980 from the Baden-Württemberg State Association of the Federation of German Architects (BDA).

The gross floor area is 50,000 m 2 . The gross floor area per bed was initially 104 m 2 , but the reduction in beds has increased this value to 123 m 2 .

The biggest renovation to date was the roof renovation between 1997 and 2002. This was necessary because the original roofs of the clinic had no slope and there was signs of rain damage. Three roof gardens were integrated into the new roof.
