The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1288 ; It is disputed among historians whether Balg was captured by the Counts of Eberstein at that time , which the two roses in the local coat of arms would speak for, or whether the Margraves of Baden had always exercised their rule.

Belgs peculiarity in the 18th and 19th centuries was the white earth , which was quarried in an extensive underground tunnel system and was used for the manufacture of pottery, which were made in Haueneberstein , Durlach and Strasbourg .

In the 19th century, the complex underground mining was given up again and supplies to the ceramic factories in Durlach and the neighboring Alsace had to be stopped.

It is also known from the 18th century that wine was cultivated in Belg. The fruit trees (orchards) necessary for the production of schnapps characterize the landscape to this day. For several decades there has been a sheep farm and a riding center on the Balger district.

The smallest district in terms of area of Baden-Baden was placed under the authority of the spa town on April 1, 1939, by means of a notification from the Reich governor.
