The place Geroldsau is a residential area in the Baden-Baden district of Lichtental in the northern Black Forest .

History and present

Geroldsau (Gerhartisowe) was first mentioned in 1253 and came to Lichtental in 1288.

Around 1000 inhabitants live in the street village through which the Grobbach flows . The Heilig-Geist-Kirche, which was built in 1937, is in the center of the village. There is also a sports field and a multi-purpose hall, the Grobbachhalle. The B 500 , the Black Forest High Road, runs through Geroldsau . There are four associations: the Geroldsau music band, the Merkur choral society, the Geroldsau gymnastics club and the Höllenwölfe civic association, which is primarily known as the carnival club.

Worth seeing

One of the sights is the Geroldsauer waterfall , which Johannes Brahms visited together with Clara Schumann and Gustave Courbet . The small Marienkapelle , built in the historicist style in 1855, is located in Heschmattweg . In 2015 the Geroldsauer Mühle opened at the beginning of the village. The building made of silver fir in the Black Forest style houses catering and market operations with regional and seasonal goods, event areas and an exhibition on the natural and cultural landscape of the Black Forest.
