history

inner space

In 1770 believers from the region set up a wayside shrine near the corner courtyards. The essential dates in the history of the chapel are engraved on it . The building goes back to a foundation made by the Lichtental residents Bernhard Heck and his wife Maria Anna in 1809. Heck was previously ill and recovered after an intercessory prayer . Other people who had heard of the story also wandered to the chapel and made their requests to Mary there. At the end of the 19th century, the popularity was so great that construction workers built a vestibule in 1897. At that time, the building also received a roof turret with a bell. 1897 inaugurated the pastor Bauer at fair -Sunday the sacred one. The heirs of Heck took care of the building. Nevertheless, around 100 years after its construction, the building showed a clear need for renovation, which was exacerbated by the further increase in visitor numbers.

In 1907, with the help of donations, craftsmen built the significantly larger building that still existed in the 21st century. The city of Baden-Baden supported the project by donating a statue of the Virgin Mary that was placed on the altar . Pastor Götz inaugurated the chapel on October 27, 1907. The building was in need of renovation again for 30 years. The Baden-Baden group of the Schoenstatt Movement received permission to renovate the interior and to hang up the picture, Mother Thrice Admirable from Schoenstatt . In this spiritual renewal movement , Mary plays a central role in the Schoenstatt covenant of love . They commissioned the Karlsruhe artist Klara Kreß to develop a design for the glass windows. The new church consecration took place on September 5, 1937 by the parish priest Heusler . A few weeks later, on October 27, 1937, the parish celebrated the first service .

During the Second World War , the chapel served as an emergency shelter for soldiers. In 1967 the parish renewed the floor and replaced the original painting, which no longer existed, with a picture that the founder of the Schoenstatt Movement, Josef Kentenich , painted on the occasion of his visit to the chapel on September 3, 1967. The work was completed on October 22, 1967 with a service. In May 1978 the parish installed new benches in the building. On the occasion of the 50 years of care of the building by the Schoenstatt Movement, a ceremony was held on September 5, 1987 in the presence of Father Roth . In 2000 the chapel was renovated again.

Architecture and equipment

The building was built from bricks with a T-shaped floor plan and provided with white plaster . On the north side there is a segment arch portal as well as two segment arch windows, arranged symmetrically to the door. The bottles are bordered with reddish brick. On the east and south sides are two smaller, simpler windows made of lead glass . The two eastern windows show the Annunciation of the Lord , while the two western windows each show two people and the words "Praise the Lord, my soul and my heart rejoices with God" ( Ps 103.1  EU ). To the south, behind a segment arch-shaped recess with a rectangular floor plan, there is an altar, which is illuminated from the west and east through small reddish-colored lead glass windows. Kentenich's painting hangs above it. On the outside of the south wall, the wayside shrine is integrated into the facade. The roof is covered with black pans. In the middle there is a roof turret with a bell, above it a spire with a tower ball and weather valve. A golden cross is attached to a triangular gable above the entrance portal.
