Gmina Żmigród (German municipality Trachenberg ) refers to an urban and rural municipality in the district of Trzebnica in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship . It lies at an altitude of 91 meters above sea level in the Kotlina Żmigrodzka (German Trachenberg Basin ) and is traversed by the Barycz (German Bartsch ), a tributary of the Oder .

Protected area

The Dolina Baryczy Landscape Park.

Large areas of the municipality of Żmigród have IUCN Category V protected area status . These are part of the largest landscape protection park in Poland called Dolina Baryczy ( Bartschtal ). The park has an area of 870.4 km 2 and extends along the flow course of the Barycz (dt. Bartsch ) through the counties Trzebnica , Milicz and Ostrow . The park was established on June 3, 1996 and is part of the European network of protected areas Natura 2000 . The area offers a habitat for around 240 species of birds and is inhabited by 14 species of plants and animals from Annex II of the Habitats Directive , which are particularly in need of protection in the EU. The city and the municipality of Żmigród bear the same coat of arms . It depicts a green dragon lying on its back on a red background, in front of which is a pinnacle tower with a pointed roof. The motif was first used on a city seal from 1402. The flag of the municipality is a tricolor in the format 5: 8 and consists of three horizontal stripes of equal size in the colors white, red and green.
