Ekkehard Westermann

Ekkehard Westermann (* 26. November 1940 in Trachenberg , Silesia ; † 18th January 2015 in Rantrum , Schleswig-Holstein ) was a German coal and steel, agriculture and economic historian of the late Middle Ages and the early modern period .

Ekkehard Westermann studied economics and social history from 1960 to 1966 at the universities of Münster , Freiburg and Marburg , where he passed his first state examination for teaching at grammar schools in 1966. From 1966 to 1970 he was a research assistant at the seminar for economic and social history at the University of Marburg, where he received his doctorate in 1970 with a study on Eisleben cookware and its importance for the European copper market around 1500.

In 1971 he passed the second state examination for teaching at grammar schools and worked at the Laubach College of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau until 1973 . Then in July 1973 he switched to teaching at the Karlsruhe University of Education , where he became professor of history and its didactics in 1977. He taught at this university until his retirement after 2000.

He was married to the historian Angelika Westermann . The couple researched and published a lot together.
