Angelika Westermann

Angelika Westermann (* 1945 in Gießen ) is a German historian who mainly deals with mining history in the German-speaking area as well as with related topics of economic and social history.

Life

After a phase of professional independence, Angelika Westermann began studying history, German and political science at the Karlsruhe University of Education in 1982 . In 1993 she completed her dissertation on the problems of the Lower Austrian coal and steel industry in the 16th century, which was awarded a special prize from the ABB Science Prize. Her habilitation on the history of the Montanregion Vorderösterreich in the early modern period was supported by the German Research Foundation. This was followed by teaching assignments at various universities and professorships at the Heidelberg University of Education and at the University of Hanover .

Westermann holds a professorship in the field of economic and social history at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

She was married to the historian Ekkehard Westermann until his death in 2015 . The couple has published numerous joint works.
