Baden-Baden panorama trail

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Panoramaweg is a nearly 45 km long circular hiking trail that leads around the city of Baden-Baden in the state of Baden-Württemberg . It was redesigned by the city in 1997 and its route was adjusted again in 2019 in order to integrate other sights of the city and viewpoints. The city has divided the trail into four sections that are between eight and fourteen kilometers in length.

route

1st stage: Kurhaus - mountain railway station in the Merkurwald

View of Mercury

The first stage of the Panoramaweg started at the Bernhardus Church by 2018 and was about 6.4 km long. Since spring 2019, the hike has started centrally in the old town - at the Kurhaus - and covers a length of 9.4 km.

The route first leads to the pump room near the Kurhaus and through the old town streets of Baden-Baden. Past the historical relics of the Roman spa district, the path leads past the Catholic collegiate church to the "Florentinerberg" and finally to the viewing point above the monastery of the Holy Sepulcher. Via the former garden show area, it then goes through orchards up to the “Hungerberghütte”. From there, the path continues over the lonely “Sophienruhe” up the mountain to the “Old Castle” ( Hohenbaden Castle ). From the "Old Castle", the stage then continues on the upper cliff path past the rock towers of the famous Battert climbing and nature reserve . The hike continues via the “Engelskanzel” and “Teufelskanzel” with viewpoints to the valley station of the Merkurbergbahn . The first of four stages ends here.

2nd stage: Merkurbergbahn - Forellenhof

View of Lichtental

For around 8 kilometers, the path leads south to the Häslichmatte sunbathing area and from there it climbs slightly in a north-easterly direction to a game reserve. The path passes historic corner courtyards and then extends over the ridge of the "Eckberg", which offers a view of Baden-Baden with the Lichtental monastery. A detour to the Marienkapelle is possible at this section of the route . Past the corner courtyards, it leads first in an easterly and finally in a southerly direction to an arboretum , behind which there is a view of the Geroldsauer valley up to the Badener Höhe . From there it goes downhill to the Haimbach in the Pfrimmersbachtal ( Sauersbosch, Pfrimmersbach- and Märzenbachtal nature reserve ) to another lookout point. He crosses the hillside terraces on which in earlier times arable farming was still practiced and which thereby shaped the landscape. Over the Märzenbachtal it goes up over the Horlochweg to the Lerchenberg, in order to then lead in a southerly direction behind a sheep pasture down the mountain. The path ends at the ponds of the former “Forellenhof”, which was once made famous by a television series on the SDR .

3rd stage: Forellenhof - Geroldsauer Mühle

The third stage starts at the KVV stop "Forellenhof / Fischkultur" and has a length of 14.2 km - making this the longest section of the panorama trail. There is a country hotel that was the location of the eight-part television series Der Forellenhof from 1965, filmed in black and white by Südwestfunk . The stage leads around the Geroldsau district of Baden-Baden.

Over the Oos there is an ascent in a southerly direction to the edge of the forest, which allows a view over Oberbeuern , and in good weather as far as the Northern Vosges . The path leads over the Klosterboschfußweg to the Bußackerhütte, and then leads down in a northerly direction via Mannlichsbrunnengasse to Seelach . From there it goes in a south-westerly direction up the Obersten Berg in order to then cross the Übelsbachtal. Another ascent leads into the Geroldsauer valley with another vantage point, the Narrenstein. From there the path runs along the Grobbach in the Grobbach valley to the Geroldsauer waterfall and finally over the Black Forest High Road to the Malschbach forest car park . There is a KVV bus stop here - for all hikers who want to leave the path now.

After crossing the Black Forest High Road at the forest parking lot, the “Panoramaweg” meanders between meadows and fruit trees to the higher-lying city forest above the Geroldsauer Valley. The tour ends in the valley at the “Geroldsauer Mühle”, a restaurant for excursions.

4th stage: Geroldsauer Mühle - pump room

View of the Rhine plain

The fourth and second longest stage at 13.2 kilometers leads from the Geroldsauer Mühle back to the old town of Baden-Baden. Via the “Yellow Oak” refuge, the hiker first reaches the exposed “Louisfelsen”, a well-known vantage point with a view of Baden-Baden, the Rhine and deep into France, on forest paths. Over the "Lache" and past the "Pfeifersfels", the "Panoramaweg" then leads the hiker to the "Waldhaus Batschari". From here it is not far to the "Korbmattfelsen" with another vantage point. The path then leads the hikers back into the city's surroundings. Since 2019 he has passed the rose garden on the Beutig and the " Stourdza Chapel " above the old town. The stage then leads downhill through the spa gardens back to the starting point of the circular route - the Kurhaus.

Certification and awards

In 2004 the hiking trail was named the “most beautiful hiking trail” by the German Tourism Association. The German Hiking Institute runs the Panoramaweg as a premium hiking trail . After a redesign in 2019, the hiking trail will undergo a new certification and assessment by the German Hiking Institute.
