Ebersteinburg with the ruins of Alt-Eberstein

Ebersteinburg is a district of Baden-Baden ; it is 426 m high between Murgtal and Oostal , east of Battert , a popular climbing area, and north of Merkur, Baden-Baden's local mountain. The village has belonged to Baden-Baden since January 1st, 1972 and has about 1200 inhabitants.

The castle Alt-Eberstein , the ancestral castle of the County of Eberstein, was formative and eponymous . Around the year 1100 the Counts of Eberstein lived there and built a castle on a hilltop, which is in front of the local Schlossberg to the north. Of these, only the keep and a shield wall are left today.

The village itself is located south of the Alt-Eberstein castle ruins . After the castle fell, it was used as a quarry for the village.

Walking and hiking trails lead to Battert and Hohenbaden Castle (old castle) as well as Merkur and are popular with locals and guests in every season.
