Location of Haueneberstein in the Baden-Baden district

Haueneberstein , in dialect for short "Eberschde", is a district northwest of Baden-Baden on the edge of the Black Forest .

history

It was first mentioned in a document in March 1245 in the founding document of the Lichtenthal monastery . But traces go back to the 1st century.

The Margraves of Baden came into possession of the settlement around 1283 . One church was reported in 1348. As early as 1433 a margrave's hereditary mill was lent, which later had a water wheel 9.10 m in diameter. French troops destroyed the place in 1689. From the reconstruction, beautiful ensembles of old half-timbered houses with keystones in arched fields of cellar entrances can be seen in the old local area.

Small monuments , including many high crosses and wayside shrines from the 18th and 19th centuries, provide impressive evidence of the local history and the cultural past. The Catholic Baroque Church of St. Bartholomew was built in 1799; Inside there is a high altar from 1742 and two side altars from 1744 as well as a baptismal font from around 1500.

The current school building dates from 1907.

The town hall, built from yellowish sandstone in 1889 in neo-renaissance style, stands in the center of the old town center. Before the incorporation on January 1, 1974, the village was administered by different cities.

The place name goes back to Hafeneberstein (in documents with the spelling Haveneberstein ). This means that the first villagers probably made Hafner ware, earthenware glazed with lead . They probably came from the nearby Ebersteinburg . To the west of the town was the Landsee , which was drained in the early modern period.

Until the 1930s, the inhabitants of the 900 lived  ha large district mainly on agriculture, animal husbandry and the crafts. Ox carts dominated the daily street scene back then.

After 1945 the village experienced an economic boom. Various companies settled in the newly created industrial areas. Medium-sized companies from the fields of metalworking and processing, pharmaceutical production, printing and publishing, but also companies from the trade, service and handicraft sectors now offer the residents jobs and additional supplies.
