In the course of industrialization, Uerdingen experienced a positive economic development with the settlement of new companies and thus financial stability. The city park was built around 1897, as it was recognized with foresight that sufficient recreational and natural areas should be preserved for the expansion of industry. The reason was the establishment of protection zones for the adjacent waterworks and the urban slaughterhouse that is also planned there. The area of today's city park was very swampy at that time. Around 1903 the construction of the pond, which visitors could also access by boat. The Stadtpark restaurant was built between 1905 and 1911.

Around 1927, the city park was expanded by 15 hectares with forest-like trees, a curved network of paths and a large playground. Around 1983/1984, a second large expansion of the city park followed by the citizens' association “Friends and supporters of the Krefeld-Uerdinger Stadtpark expansion” - led by chairman August Rodenberg. The "Bürgergarten" was inaugurated in 1991 on the approximately 4.3 hectare extension area. After completion, the citizens' association dissolved.

In 1997, the city park in the eastern part (adjacent to the residential development) was expanded for the last time by around 0.7 hectares.

Across from the “Bürgergarten”, a daylily garden with 100 different types of daylily (botanical Hemerocallis ) was created in 2013 on around 400 m² by trainees and employees of the Green Areas Department . Accompanying shrubs and daffodils make the garden attractive all year round.
