The parish church Waidhofen an der Ybbs is visible from afar in the north corner of the old town south of the castle high above the Schwarzbach before it flows into the Ybbs in the statutory town of Waidhofen an der Ybbs in Lower Austria . The patronage of St. The Roman Catholic parish church subordinated to Maria Magdalena and Lambert von Lüttich belongs to the deanery Waidhofen an der Ybbs of the diocese of St. Pölten . history

The church was mentioned in a document in 1186 as a branch of the Seitenstetten parish church Aschbach-Markt , around 1200 parish, 1265/1267 under the patronage of the diocese of Freising . The present patronage has been documented since 1411.

architecture

The mighty, broad-based late Gothic hall church under a uniform hipped roof with a dominantly staggered choir has a high tower in the southwest corner. The church is surrounded by a churchyard wall as part of the city fortifications; the detached former so-called Johanneskapelle stands in this churchyard in the southwest. Together with the castle, which shapes the cityscape, the churchyard closes off the upper town square in the north.

Furnishing

The high altar as a late Gothic winged altar around 1500 was transferred here in 1935 as the former high altar of the Bürgerspitalkirche.

The two Gothic side altars were created by the sculptor Josef Furthner .

Bruno Riedl built the organ in 1976 in a two-part baroque case from 1732, the parapet positive is from 1976. Mathias Prininger cast three bells in 1689 with reliefs and coats of arms, two bells Josef Pfundner 1953, the bell in the tower lantern Zügelglöcklein 1853, in the roof turret is the former Conversion Bell 1768.
