The city scale is a two story building on the Old Market of Poznan with a very high pitched roof . Its side walls are decorated with pilaster strips . Originally, the city scales served as a public facility for weighing merchant goods. Most of the time, the merchants had to pay a fee, the scale money or weighing money. Today the building serves as a registry office .

history

The first building of the city scales was probably built in the 13th century. In the years 1532–1534 it was rebuilt for the first time. In the course of the construction work of Giovanni Battista di Quadro in Poznan, who had recently been commissioned with the renovation of the Poznan Town Hall , the building of the city scales was rebuilt and enlarged in the Renaissance style by this famous architect in 1563 .

In the course of history, the necessary maintenance work was not carried out on the building, so that in 1890 its demolition became inevitable. In its place, the New Town Hall was built in the years 1891-1892 , which, badly damaged after the end of the Second World War , was not rebuilt. In its place, the city scales building that once stood there was reconstructed between 1950 and 1960.
