Giovanni Battista di Quadro (* 1510 in Lugano or Cadro  ?, Ticino , Switzerland ; † April 10, 1590 or January 16, 1591 in Posen , Kingdom of Poland ) was a Swiss-born Polish architect of the Renaissance .

Life

Di Quadro worked with his three brothers most likely in Saxony and Silesia until 1550 . On March 13, 1550 he signed a contract with the Poznan City Council for the reconstruction of the Poznan City Hall , which was completed by 1560. From 1552 to 1562 he was the city architect of Poznan, but he was also paid for by the city in 1563, 1566 and 1567, as well as in 1570 for smaller orders.

Di Quadro worked for the citizens of Poznan from the mid-1550s, as well as for the clergy and the nobility of Greater Poland . From 1568 to 1572 he was entrusted with the construction of the Warsaw Royal Castle . His varied duties were well paid and made him wealthy. However, he died in Poznan as a man in debt. His brothers Antoni, Gabriel and Kilian also worked in Poznan in the early 1550s.
