Services

Stadtwerke Ahaus GmbH has been supplying household and small business customers exclusively with natural electricity from hydropower since 2019 . The charging network for e-mobility has expanded to 14 public charging stations in the entire Ahaus area. In 2016, the Stadtwerke took up the fiber optics division. history

Waterworks

In 1914, the Heek waterworks with 5 wells (depth 12 m) and the DN 175 GG drinking water pipeline to Ahaus were built. The water tower was built in 1915 with a 250 cbm version in Ahaus. The start of drinking water supply for the city of Ahaus from the Heek waterworks began on October 1, 1915. In 1932, an unlimited water right over 365,000 m³ / a was granted in the Heek waterworks. Josef Wilkes became the first director in 1945. In 1959 a plot of land was purchased in Ahaus-Ortwick to build the Ortwick waterworks. A year later, Ahaus and the district of Wüllen were supplied by the Ortwick waterworks, followed by the districts of Wessum and Ottenstein in 1961 with the water supply. In 1965 the city of Ahaus had 50 years of supply operations and from 1972 the Stadtwerke Ahaus was owned by the city of Ahaus. The company was founded in 1976. The municipality of Heek was included in the drinking water supply in 1978 through a water supply contract. The 2020 concept for WasserWerk Ortwick will be implemented in 2010 as part of the water management / agriculture cooperation.

Electricity supply

The start of a 55 kW light supply connection and a 60 kW power connection for the city of Ahaus by the VEW was granted in 1921. Three local network stations followed in the next few years . The first plant manager was appointed in 1945. With a population of 11,000 there were around 750 house connections around 1965 . The first substation was completed in 1973 on Rottweg to supply the city center. Around 1995 and 1996, the supply network grew to 262 local network stations, 91 customer stations and the first wind turbines , combined heat and power plants, renewable energy systems and photovoltaic systems . The concessions for Ammeln, Wüllen, Wessum, Ottenstein and Graes were transferred and the management of the power supply units was taken over by VEW. This was followed in 1999 by the construction of the Ridderstrasse switch house, the Hoher Weg 2 operations building in 2001 and the high Weg 2 operations and administration building completed in 2003. The Ahaus Süd and Wessum switchgear houses followed in 2005 and 2011. The network control room for all types of supply was established Established in 2013. In 2015 the Alstätte switch house was completed.

Gas supply

The first gas works on Schorlemer Straße through the town of Ahaus was built in 1902. The sale to VEW was decided in 1925. In 1970 town gas was switched to natural gas. In 2000, Stadtwerke Ahaus took over natural gas supply from VEW again.

Heat supply

In 1997 the first combined heat and power unit (CHP) was installed in the administration building at Wessumer Straße 57 with 12.5 kW . A year later, the CHP with 50 kW in the indoor pool of the Aquahaus was put into operation. In 1999, a thermal power station " Am Kalkbruch " was built for the central supply of 340 residential units in the final stage with an installed output of 3.512 MW and 124.5 kW electrical output. In 2002 the Aquahaus was connected to the “Am Kalkbruch” heating network. Since 2013, both CHP units have been operated with bio natural gas, each with an output of 200 kW.
