The Stadtwerke Witten GmbH is a municipal company in Witten . It offers electricity, natural gas, heat and drinking water. It also operates an outdoor pool, two indoor pools and the excursion boat Schwalbe II , which runs on the Ruhr in summer .
history
From 1904 onwards, the city's power supply was the responsibility of Hochstrate & Böttcher . This was sold in 1906 to the Westphalia power station in Bochum , which was incorporated into the Westphalia power station in 1925 . In 1919 the city took over the management of the power supply and founded the municipal light and water works , which were renamed Stadtwerke Witten in 1940 .

Stadtwerke Witten is 99% owned by Ewmr - Energie- und Wasserversorgung Mittleres Ruhrgebiet (in which the city of Witten has a 15.2% stake) and one percent is owned by the city of Witten. There is a control and profit transfer agreement with Ewmr. The company employed 258 people in 2017.
