The passenger ship Schwalbe II is a day trip ship on the Ruhr and on the Witten part of the Kemnader See with its home port in Witten . The ship is operated by the Witten municipal utility . It has 125 seats on two decks.

program

It runs three to four times a day in regular service between the stations of the Kemnade leisure center on Kemnader See, the Lakebrücke in Herbede , Herbeder Schleuse , the Hardenstein castle ruins , the Nachtigall colliery and the Uferstraße mooring in Bommern . A round trip takes about two hours and includes two locks. It is possible to have weddings carried out on the ship by the Witten registry office. The ship is barrier-free in the lower deck.

history

The Schwalbe II was built at the Lux shipyard in Niederkassel as hull number 104. It was launched on June 6, 1987. It replaced its predecessor Schwalbe , built in 1923, on Lake Kemnader . In the winter of 1998/99 it was completely overhauled in the Neue Ruhrorter shipyard and lengthened by 3.30 m.

Passenger shipping in Witten began in 1967 with the Schwalbe passenger ship built in Königswinter in 1923 . In 1977 Stadtwerke Witten took over the ship from the then owner Paul Schultz. The old ship then stood in a children's playground on Lake Kemnader for a few years before it had to be scrapped due to rust. The bow and propeller are preserved and integrated into a wall in Heven .
