The steel center in Düsseldorf comprises eight organizations of the German steel producers and consists of the members of the steel trade association and the members of the steel institute VDEh .

General

A total of eight organizations and institutions have been working together under the umbrella of the Stahl-Zentrum since 1998. The organizations of the steel center are:

• Steel trade association
• Steel Institute VDEh
• Research Association for Steel Applications (FOSTA)
• Edelstahl-Vereinigung e. V.
• Stainless steel information center (ISER)
• Publishing house Stahleisen GmbH
• VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut GmbH (BFI)
• Max Planck Institute for Iron Research (MPIE)

The joint organizations in the steel center represent around 99 percent of crude steel production in Germany and also many European steel producers. The around 100 steel producers in Germany employ around 90,000 people and produced around 42 million tons of crude steel in 2016.

The aim of the steel center is to use synergies to become a competence center for steel in Germany and to effectively represent the steel industry in the fields of politics , economy and society . The steel center

• helps its member companies through targeted marketing to national and international competition,
• stands up for your interests in German and European steel policy,
• supports the further development of steel technology by expanding the technical-scientific collaborative work,
• advocates a better image of steel as a material,
• informs the public about current developments in the steel industry.

Managing directors

Hans Jürgen Kerkhoff has been the chairman of the steel institute VDEh and president of the steel trade association since April 2008 . Peter Dahlmann has been a member of the Executive Board since July 2010. The organizations combined in the Steel Center employ around 300 people in total.
