At that time, the places (camp staff) were of Landesschutzen - battalions occupied. Regular operations began on February 28, 1940. On April 14, 1940, the camp was assigned field post number 31686.

In February 1942 the new headquarters of the camp was opened in Offenburg . The camp in Offenburg included the following branch camps:

  • Malschbach (probably the former main camp). This camp was disbanded after December 14, 1944 (the exact date has not yet been determined).
  • Strasbourg , called Stalag VC / Z . This camp was disbanded between January 12 and April 22, 1944 (the exact date has not yet been determined).
  • Wildbad
  • Wildberg (this information is not certain).

A maximum of 30,000 prisoners of war from the following countries were imprisoned here: Poland , Belgium , France , the Soviet Union , Yugoslavia , Italy , and Great Britain .

Further data could possibly be obtained after evaluating the documents that are kept in the Federal Archives-Military Archives in Freiburg in the holdings RH49 (prisoner of war facilities) and RH53-5 / 31 (subordinate Landesschütz battalions).
