Stan is a software which is used for questions of Bayesian statistics with the help of the Monte Carlo simulation .

Stan was developed at Columbia University based on the BUGS project and with a similar syntax. The name of the software was chosen in honor of the mathematician Stanisław Marcin Ulam , a pioneer in research on Monte Carlo simulation. Stan can be used via the command line as well as with the help of integrations in R , Python , MATLAB , Julia and Stata . Stan converts a model description to C ++ and compiles it into an executable file. This can be done together with data.
