Site ammunition defeat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A local ammunition defeat ( StOMunNdl ) was a fixed military facility of the Bundeswehr . It was used to store (deposit) ammunition for the troops stationed at the location , which were also responsible for guarding them. Due to the threat situation during the Cold War , it was necessary that the troops had quick access to ammunition in the event of an alarm. The local munitions defeats belonged to the territorial army .

designation

The local ammunition defeats were identified with a four-digit sequence, with a slash between the third and fourth digits (e.g. local ammunition defeat 352/1). The first digit corresponded to the number of the military area command (WBK), the first two digits the number of the Defense District Command (VBK) and the first three digits the number of the Defense District Command (VKK) in whose area the site munitions defeat was. The number after the slash was a consecutive number of the location ammunition defeats within the same Defense District Command (up to six). The site ammunition defeat in the example was the first in the area of VKK 352, which was subordinate to VBK 35, which in turn was subordinate to WBK III.

investment

The system of site munitions defeats was based on the needs of the troops to be supplied. Accordingly, they were categorized into types A to K. They were mostly located in a wooded area and basically consisted of a fenced area with a guard house and several ammunition stores (bunkers) that were connected by a ring road. Vehicles delivering or picking up ammunition could enter and leave the site without turning. Site munitions defeats were military security areas .

Special ammunition depot

A special form of site ammunition defeat was the special ammunition depot , also known as "Type K ammunition defeat". They were used to store American tactical nuclear weapons . This was particularly the case in the areas of the location where there were German troops that would have used nuclear weapons in the event of a defense in the context of nuclear participation . Most of these stores also included an area for storing conventional ammunition.

history

On January 20, 1969, the soldier murder of Lebach occurred in the site ammunition defeat 461/1 in what is now Lebach - Landsweiler .

After the end of the Cold War, the military threat situation in Germany changed fundamentally. A constant ammunition supply close to the troops was no longer necessary. Therefore, most of the 150 or so site ammunition defeats were closed in the 1990s. Since then, the troops have been supplied with ammunition from central ammunition stores of the military organization area Armed Forces Base .

Ammunition defeats can still be found today at military training areas and near military airfields .
