Stanley A. Prokop (born July 29, 1909 in Throop , Lackawanna County , Pennsylvania , †  November 11, 1977 in Lake Ariel , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1959 and 1961 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Stanley Prokop attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at Villanova University . During the Second World War he was a soldier in an infantry unit in the US Army . He rose to the rank of captain. After that he was mayor of Lackawanna. He also served on the North Pocono District School Committee for ten years. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1958 congressional election , Prokop was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 10th constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Joseph L. Carrigg on January 3, 1959 . Since he was not confirmed in 1960, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1961 . This period was marked by the events of the Cold War and the civil rights movement .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Stanley Prokop held several local offices in Lackawanna County. Among other things, he was director of veterans affairs there for 14 years. He died on November 11, 1977 in Lake Ariel.
